Aotearoa Climate Education Coalition

Education that centres sustainable wellbeing of people and planet

Our Coalition believes that intergenerational transformative, climate-responsive education is needed from early learning centres and schools through to tertiary education, in the workplace, and in our communities.

We’ve developed a Position Statement on transformative education for a climate-changing Aotearoa New Zealand

How will we get there?

We need a collective vision, coherent policy design and immediate actionable plans for educational leaders, teachers and learners.

And we need effective climate education in communities and workplaces that supports us to challenge and evolve the way we do things across all aspects of our lives.

A little about our cover image

This artwork, by Matthew, aged 10, was a winner in the Generation Zero exhibition, “What if we just made art, not climate change?”, held in Wellington in April 2023.

Matthew says his piece of art is a girl in the future or an alternate timeline where climate change was solved.

“There would be less dried grass because it would be much colder. There would also be more hail or snow, it would be colder overall.

I wonder what it would actually look like.”
